Modern development of local self-government began in the late 1980s through the introduction of a number of new regulatory acts that consolidated the status and role of local self-government bodies. The article is devoted to the consideration of the process of the formation of local self-government in Bolivia in a historical retrospective. The author studies the current situation of local authorities, their status, structure, features of formation and control over them. The role of local government in improving the quality of life of the population and improving the socio-economic situation in the state as a whole is analyzed.
